SPIRIT TALES AND MAGIC

What Happens When The Unseen Follows The Famous

Dr.G Season 4 Episode 19

A house with hidden passages, a polite request for anonymity, and a story we can’t tell—those boundaries set the stage for a conversation about celebrity hauntings that feel uncomfortably familiar. We walk through three public accounts that challenge skepticism in different ways: Courtney Cox hears a stranger at the door say there’s “someone behind you,” Octavia Spencer treats her resident spirit like a bouncer who keeps trouble out, and Britney Spears reportedly flees a home after a “portal” moment that turns a staircase into a threat. The details are vivid—bedsides, thresholds, lights, doors—and they echo patterns everyday listeners report when a home begins to feel watched.

What stands out is not just the fear, but the framing. Cox moves from shrug to certainty when a third party validates the phenomenon. Spencer’s calm redefines a haunting as hospitality with boundaries, tying the energy of a 1920s Toluca Lake home to a protective presence. The Hollywood Hills thread adds tension: layered ownership, emotional history, and a black-tie party where a witness sees a figure in a bowler hat as someone is shoved on the stairs. Whether you read these stories as the paranormal, the psychological, or the intersection of both, the recurring motifs—staircases, liminal spaces, charged gatherings—are hard to ignore.

We also get candid about ethics and trust. NDAs matter, names stay off the record, and the focus shifts to patterns anyone can use: keep a simple log, test for natural causes, change one variable at a time, and speak clear boundaries into the room. If the numbers hold—half of people believe in ghosts and a third claim an encounter—then telling these stories is less about spectacle and more about solidarity. Stream now, share the episode with a friend who loves a good mystery, and leave a review with your own strangest home moment—protector, prankster, or proof?

SPEAKER_00:

Good morning, everybody. It's Dr. G. It's about 10 o'clock in lovely downtown Phoenix. We're not in downtown Phoenix. I don't know why I say that. I'm going to take a moment to remind everybody that if you go out to the website, you can book us for a show or a corporate event. Details are all out there. Sandra and I are back in the studio for a day or two. So if you listened last night, we were talking about this house that we're we're going through, and it has kind of a little secret passage in it. Excuse me for one moment. That's kind of cool. So the owners of the house came to where we were and they said, Hey, we saw you do a show, and uh we'd like to show you this house and see what you think. Okay, great. Everything was great, and oh, I can't wait till you guys come out here and see this place and you know let me know what you think. So we get there, and it's well, you're not gonna say where it is, are you? Or you're not gonna use our names or say the address of the house or anything like that. No, that's fine. I can do it without that. Well, you know, because I I don't want to be one of those people that has a ghost. Okay. You know, we we we're tied to a couple of local celebrities, and I don't want them to, you know, to not come here and things like that. So, okay, whatever your reason is, that's that's up to you. It's fine. This intensifies to a point where it is getting nerve-wracking. So then we see this the first of three little secret areas that are in the house, and why they think it's haunted, who's haunting it, historical things that they've found out about the house, and spend way too long in the house. Accumulate a really good story, and then we're told not to tell it. So one of the celebrities they're allegedly very good friends with, I have an MDA with. So that's a that's a gray area that I don't know if I want to enter into or not. Um, it's not like that particular person and I are friends because we're not. Um we've had a couple of interactions, I've done a couple things for them, and they're very civil and very nice to me. So I know you guys are listening. I'm not gonna tell your story because you asked me not to, but I will say that when someone writes in and tells a fictitious story about a fictitious house, I'm most likely going to post it. It got Cassandra and I think about celebrities. I've met a lot of celebrities in my life. Magic has taken me to many, many places that a boy from a small town in Ohio would not necessarily have gotten to see. Met a lot of great people along the way. And like I always say, genuinely appreciate all the listeners and everything that you're doing for us and all the people who come and see the shows. We love you. But a lot of the celebrities that I have met, and even more that I have not met, have ghost stories, and they're public, they're out there, they don't try and hide them. So we have a list of folks that have some ghost stories, and I thought I'd cover about three of those with you today. They're pretty quick, and I will say that the three celebrities that have these ghost stories today, um, I have not met them. I would tell you that I would love to meet them, but I have not met them. So they're not in any of my NDA group. They're I would know them if I saw them, and I would attempt to walk up and introduce myself to them, and hopefully not get squashed by their bodyguards. But um, I don't know these guys. But these these ghost stories are public record. During a March 2022 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, Courtney Cox tells her paranormal encounter, and also she says the warnings that preceded them. At the home that she once owned in Laurel Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles, the first warning Cox said came from legendary singer Carol King, who previously owned the home. So Carol comes over to my house one night, she says, there had been a divorce that was really ugly, and there was a ghost in the house. And I was like, Yeah, whatever. But other people who had stayed there with me, friends of mine, said that they had an encounter with a woman who was sitting on the edge of the bed. Cox continued, though she brushed them off and all their concerns brushed off at the time as well. That was until one day the doorbell rings. Cox opens the door and she says, I remember it was a UPS guy or something. And we're having our transaction, and he asked her, Do you know that your house is haunted? Cox replies, Yes, I do. Why? Why do you think that? To which the delivery guy driver responded, Because there's someone standing right behind you. The star said that that was enough to convince her once and for all, joking to Kimmel that she was ready to sell the house after that experience. Octavia Spencer had a supernatural roommate during a December 2021 appearance on Ellen DeGeneres. The actress told the talk show host that she grew up watching Westerns and she loved them, and she bought a house that was owned by a man who worked in that genre. Spencer purchased the 1927 Spanish-style house at Toluca Lake in 2013 and said that the ghost she claims came with the property was her quote protector. She says, I love him because he kind of sorts out the bad people that shouldn't be there. He runs them out. If they stay at my place, they don't want to come back. And that's how I know that they don't belong there in the first place, she continued. Everybody's like, oh, your place is so welcoming. It's so great. And that's how I feel about it. I never feel afraid there. When DeGeneres asked if she'd experienced any spooky moments at the home, like doors closing on their own, Spencer said, Well, when I leave for a long time, he's uh well, he's a little bit shady. The doors close, the lights go off, and when I turn them on, she said, The only problem is I love my ghost. I don't want you bringing your ghost to my house. I don't want anybody's ghost thinking that they can be friends with my ghost. And then there's Brittany Spears. So before selling her Hollywood Hills home to Britney Murphy and her husband, both whom actually died in the house in, I believe, 2009 and 2010 respectively, Britney Spears allegedly had otherworldly experiences on the property. Her former former makeup artist, and I believe that's Julianne Kane, shared on the We Need to Talk About Brittany podcast. And I think that was February of 2021. She had the place up on Sunset Plaza, and I'm just gonna say this is really weird. She calls me. I had my friend do Reiki Healing on her. He had come up, I guess she'd had a crazy partying weekend and needed to relax. He left and she swears to God that he opened some spirit portal or something, and these bad spirits have come in. And they were trying to push her down the stairs or something crazy. She continued, it was so bad that she left. She went to the Casa Del Moore Hotel to stay and never went back to the house. She goes, I know you're going to think I'm crazy, but I'm not crazy. I know what I saw, I know what I felt. Though Murphy never had a supernatural encounter while she was in the home, she often complained to her husband that something was just off about the house. He recounted some stories himself shortly before his death in 2010. Sometimes celebrities trade properties, sell properties. If I'm a famous celebrity and I purchase a home from another friend of mine who's a famous celebrity, when I get tired of it for whatever reason that may be, I might turn to a friend who's a celebrity and say, Hey, I've got this house. Here's why it makes me uncomfortable. Do you want it? Because I'll give it to you for what I paid for or less or whatever, right? Just like anybody else would do. So sometimes many celebrities will wind up living in a house just like many other people end up living in a house, right? Normal people, just their status is a little different because they're more well known. Ronald Reagan. President Reagan. I had a couple chances to talk to him. One of the things he always said was, You're no different than I am. Your pants go in the same way mine do every morning. I just happen to be in the right place at the right time a couple of times, and you just haven't been there yet. Doesn't make us any different. Nice guy. So where am I going with all this? I have knowledge through someone else of that particular home. Now, that someone else I do have an NDA with, so can't say who. However, the pushing part of that, trying to push me down the stairs. This other person was pushed, actually, up the stairs. They were walking up the stairs. They were about halfway up when someone pushed them in the back, causing them to fall face down on the stairs. They then grabbed the rails when they got back up and pulled themselves back to the top of the stairs. Shortly after that, they sold the house. Now, when that incident happened, they were having a party in the house. Approximately 50 to 60 people attending. It is a black tie kind of thing. You have a lot of people in black ties, white tugs, you know, black gowns, white gowns, that sort of thing. But the person that someone saw pushing this young lady on the stairs, bowler hat, long coat. And we'll hear more about that later. So those are three celebrities, and we're going to cover some more in just a day or so, that have had ghostly encounters. These are people who are in the public eye from time to time, who certainly are not afraid to say, hey, I have a ghost in my house. You'll hear me say, and you'll probably hear me say it when we finish this episode, hey, tell a ghost story. It's good for you. And you've heard me talk about different stats about ghosts. If it is true that one out of every two people believe in ghosts, and if it is true that one out of three have had an interaction of some sort with the paranormal, especially given the world that we live in right now, and don't even get me started on all that. Why would you even worry about saying, hey, this freaky thing is going on, and I don't have an explanation for it? Apparently, you are not alone. Do you have a celebrity ghost story, a friend of yours that might be a celebrity? And if not, what's your good story? What's freaky that goes on in your house? We'd love to hear about it. Cassandra and I'll be in for a couple days, and then we'll be back out in the field. Keep in mind the website is open to you 24-7, and we do thank you for all that you do for us. Always remember, there is indeed a world unseen. It's a world that exists all around us all the time. And every now and then, for whatever the reason, we catch a glimpse of it, and the dead get in. Talk tomorrow, my friends.
